Every night my step dad watches the ministers on tv . On this particular night I was in the kitchen making me some dinner and I could hear Creflo Dollar talking about breaking generational curses on your life. For instance if you have someone in your family who got pregnant at an early age without mariage it’s highly possible that other women in the family have done this same thing in the past etc etc.

He was also talking about how when we are born we are children of the devil until we accept Christ in our lives. However until you are a certain age you are not accountable. In other words if you die at 1yr of age you will be with God. He was making a point of saying that we must turn from sinful ways in our lives but in order for it to matter we needed to be saved.

What I don’t agree with is when he is talking about changing certain things about yourself that may be easier said than done or just not possible at all. I particulary tune in when he talks about homosexuality. I must give him credit because every time he talks about homosexuality he doesn’t talk about it like it is the only sin in the world (not that I believe it is a sin). However most people in the church believe that homosexuality is a sin and an abomination.

I personally don’t believe that we can just live our lives without any moral boundaries. Killing somone because they cut you off on the highway is just ridiculous. He also made this point that if your not a believer in God and you make positive changes in your life that you are still a child of the devil (I don’t particularly like that phrase child of the devil but these are his exact words)

I clearly understand some of his points and agree with some of his teachings but just because people believe in God does not mean they make the necessary positive adjustments in their life. If they were sleeping with every tom dick and harry they may still continue this behavior even though they believe in God and are “Saved”..

I found myself getting frustrated with what he was saying because I find it difficult for a person to be so sure about how people should live their lives based on what they have read in the bible. I believe ministers are very necessary as well as self help guru’s but I strongly believe that we all have to learn to trust our own instincts and what our spirit speaks to us within.

I have tried many times to “Not be Gay” and each time I was so serious about my decision. I wanted so badly to please God and if being gay was an abomination then I did not want to be gay. Each time I tried I would be full force in my stance against what I felt only to become very depressed and unhappy. I just could not understand why God would want me to be any way other than I was if it was going to cause so much grief and I refuse to be unhappy.

Today I realize that being gay is the least of my worries and that all of my confusion came from what others said and not what I felt God was speaking to me. Trying everyday to learn how to live and work with others successfully is difficult but a doable challenge. Learning how to be content in whatever situation I find myself in is very difficult but a doable challenge. I am single and have been celibate for almost 4 years now 3 of which were consecutive and although I’m not sexually active with men I LOVE MEN. That is NOT going to change.

I always like to hear what a minister has to say about homosexuality because I respect what they have to say and it also lets me check myself to see if I still stand by my believe that I am who I am. Creflo says we make excuses to justify our sins. I’m sure all human beings including him finds himself justifying his lifestyle at times. From the look of his waist size I’m sure he is a glutton and probably doesn’t exercise very much. Now that was just very judgemental of me now wasn’t it? Another challenge that is doable to adjust.

So I say to you don’t believe what anybody has to say just because they sound so sure about what they believe is best for your life. We all have the answers inside of us as well. Trust your intuition and what your spirit speaks to you. I’m always certain about what I know for sure right now but that is always subject to change. I want each and everyone of you to be empowered by the answers you find within yourself and when you hear or read what someone else wrote it should connect with what you already know and believe for yourself. With love Garland
